Had trouble starting the truck when cold. Replaced glow plugs, valve cover harnesses, glow plug control module (excursion), etc. and truck would only start if plugged in for a hour or two and would misfire until it warmed up. I installed shims from the shim kit I got on eBay and it seems to have helped. This video assumes you know how to remove the valve covers. Video shows me doing 2, I did all 8. Shim kit for $60 shipped was worth a shot over $1100 injectors. I did this on a 2002 7.3 Excursion. In the video you can see it still didn't start right away, think the batteries are dying.
I would recommend this to anyone thinking about replacing 7.3 injectors, this kit is supposed to revive them to factory clearance specs and states you'll get another 200k out of the injectors after this.
I'm not a mechanic, just working on stuff in my driveway and I claim no responsibility
