Rudresh Mahanthappa and his amazing "Bird Calls" project performing "Chilllin'" at the 2015 Charlie Parker Jazz Festival in Tompkins Square Park in New York City.
Now a bit of an explanation and apology as to why this is edited. Unfortunately and inadvertently from where I was sitting, trumpeter Adam O'Farrill was standing, back to me, directly in my sight line to bassist Francois Moutin. Therefore I have edited out Francois' bass solo, because it would be very disrespectful to post 4 minutes of Adam O'Farrill's behind during the bass solo. Also, due to the You Tube 10 minute time limit, i have taken out a short section of Adam O'Farrill's trumpet solo. That said, I think this is still a good clip of Rudresh Mahanthappa and his amazing sonic world of his Bird Calls ensemble. This was especially fitting at the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival as the Parker inspired project was performed just across from where Bird used to live. The amazing"Chillin'" is inspired by Charlie Parker's "Relaxing". Let's also fess up here to one thing. Rudresh is not only one of the best alto players today, he is also one of the best composers in jazz.
