Telesat, a Canadian telecommunications company, knows that in today’s digital economy, access to high-speed broadband internet is no longer a luxury—but a necessity. One of the world's largest and most innovative satellite operators, the company is investing billions in Telesat Lightspeed, a highly advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network. This cutting-edge technology will bring high-speed connectivity to more Canadians, including those in the air, at sea or in small rural communities.
With world-class talent and infrastructure in the aerospace sector, Quebec was a natural fit for the satellite project. Telesat was attracted to the province’s generous financial incentives, strong government support and commitment to innovation in telecommunications and the New Space Economy. Plus, Telesat has built exciting partnerships with companies like Canadian aerospace engineering firm MDA to bring their vision to life.
This investment will create 600 high-paying STEM jobs and significant growth for both Telesat and Canada’s telecommunications and aerospace sectors. The Government of Quebec is investing $400 million to support the project following a partnership with the Government of Canada to develop Telesat Lightspeed. The new Quebec campus will house technical operations, including a satellite control centre, cybersecurity operations, engineering lab and an advanced landing station.
