LED Lights are a popular choice for airport lighting due to their high efficiency and energy-saving technology compared to conventional light sources. An incandescent taxiway bulb has an average lamp life of 1,000 hours, while LEDs are rated at 56,000 hours at full intensity. They can also be powered on and off instantaneously, meaning that they can be deactivated whenever they’re not in use.
In this seminar entitled LED Lighting “20 Years on” we will look at the development of LEDs and what we have learned about LED Lighting systems used for the aviation sector during the last two decades. We will discuss the potential energy savings of LED Lights, their longevity and performance and if they improve AGL maintenance operations and airport safety. Are LED lights better for the environment? What are the lessons learned?
