Sit down with me and enjoy what master engine builder, Head designer, and car builder John Lingo as to say about owning and working on various Model A cars since the late 1950's. At the time of this video, John had recently turned 93 and was just as sharp as ever. Being a member of the East Tennessee Model A Restorer's Club since the 1960's, he has helped countless Model A and other vintage car owners with their cars. John currently owns a 1930 Deluxe Roadster, 1931 Victoria, and a 1931 2 Door Phaeton of which he essentially built the body from new sheet metal from the cowl backwards. John also owns a 1916 Model T Roadster, the last year for the Brass Era Model T.
One very interesting fact that I found out afterwards was that John help to restore the Mercedes built Limousine used by Adolph Hitler. Per the Greenville Sun "In the early 1970s, members of the Volunteer State Auto Club made some repairs on the Mercedes to prepare it for display in a car show the club was hosting.
John Lingo, a charter member of the car club, was one of the people who worked on the vehicle. The Mercedes had been in storage for years as its maintenance had become difficult for the VFW, he recalls, and the car club members worked mostly on spiffing up the exterior to put it on display. “We didn’t try to get it started, although I am sure we could,” he said. “We just didn’t have time before the show.”
“It was unique to say the least,” Lingo said of the car. “It was painted black and there was very little chrome. There would have been much more but was limited because of the war blackouts.”
He also recalled the extensive security measures that were part of the car, including 2-inch thick glass, armor-plated doors and wood surrounding the gas tank to protect if from an explosion. The car had an all-leather interior and featured a “humongous straight-eight cylinder engine.”
When I am not making images for my normal (if there is such a thing) bodies of work as a photographer, I make plenty of fun videos for my Model A that you can find on this channel too. Be sure to check them out.
As to gear, I shoot a variety of full frame Nikon cameras and lenses. Most everything is shot on a tripod to produce the sharpest images possible.

My 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan has eyebrow fenders and still has the original interior. It's certainly worn but it still is functional. I have rebuilt the driveline, suspension, and tie rods, installed a modernized Model A motor with oversized intake valves, insert bearings, and a high compression head. I also have a lightened flywheel and V8 clutch. The car comfortably cruises at 50MPH but I've had it up to 60MPH. I have also insulated and installed sound deadener which has made the car enjoyable to be in even at 90 degrees.
