Palkia has returned to legendary raid in January 2025.
Compared to Palkia-Origin, Palkia has both lower base attack, base defense and same base HP. Which means, Palkia is strictly weaker than Palkia-Origin with all its stat being either identical or weaker than its Origin form. On top of that, Palkia cannot learn Spacial Rend, not even by chance. Unfortunately, this means the main purpose of Palkia raid would be providing a way to hunt for its Shiny form (for either collection purpose or HOME transfer) or collecting Palkia candies.
Since Palkia shares the same moveset and typing as Palkia-Origin as a raid boss, the same list of Pokemon who were viable against Palkia-Origin would also be viable against Palkia. With Palkia being strictly weaker than Palkia-Origin, it also means we can defeat Palkia as Solo Raid just like how we did on Palkia-Origin. However, with Palkia's weaker defense stat, it is possible to defeat Palkia with more challenging moveset.
This time, Mega Rayquaza would challenge Dragon Breath/Hydro Pump Palkia by its own as a Solo Raid in Windy weather. With Dragon Breath being super effective and Hydro Pump being resisted by Mega Rayquaza, the benefits of dodging is not significant. Mega Rayquaza can choose between dodging or not under this matchup. This time, Mega Rayquaza would choose to tank Hydro Pump mostly and only dodge when the incoming Hydro Pump would otherwise defeat it.
Thanks to Palkia's lower defense stat, Mega Rayquaza can afford more rejoins this time. With dodging being an option instead of mandatory, Mega Rayquaza also has much higher flexibility this time. With careful decision on dodging, it can always leave the battlefield for healing at its minimum possible HP. After 7 rejoins, Mega Rayquaza has defeated Palkia in the last possible turn, a turn before the "you win but you lost" glitch would be triggered.
