Using known masses to calibrate a force sensing resistor (FSR) of type RP-S40-ST. Force sensitive resistors use material and electrical properties of polymer composites to relate the resistance of the material to the pressure or force being applied to the sensor.
In this video, a plate of known area is used to calibrate the response of an FSR to added calibrated masses (weights). This results in a curve fit related to the force response applied to the sensor. FSRs are used in wearables, robotic touch applications, and other applications where traditional force sensors are too cumbersome or rigid.
