Dehcho Youth Ecology & Traditional Camp 2019
The 2019 Dehcho Youth Ecology & Traditional Knowledge Camp was held at 6 Mile Creek alongside the Deh Cho (Mackenzie River) in the Dehcho region of the Northwest Territories. The camp brought together Elders and scientists to engage, educate, and empower local Indigenous youth through cultural activities and hands-on science. These camps have been led by Dehcho First Nations for over a decade. In recent years, DFN partnered with Wilfrid Laurier University to have graduate students come lead science activities and lead collaborative research projects. Stephanie Woodworth, PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, attended the camp to lead a photovoice project with the youth participants. She made this video to showcase the different activities at the camp, as well as the successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
