Vilanova de Arousa to O Milladoiro, approx. 30 or 14 miles - Day 11 on the Camino Portugues
After a wonderful café con leche, we hop on a boat with over 20 pilgrims in the direction of Puentecesures. This is not cheating, as it retraces the last journey of the apostle, who was taken on a boat to Galicia to be buried there after his worldly life, which incidentally came to a rather brutal end in Judea. A star guided the coffin bearers of the time to the legendary field of stars, the Compostela, whereupon many legends were spun and city founders thought, if we are going to lay a foundation stone - why not here? And so Santiago de Compostela was born. We all know: Saints only reap their fame posthumously. And so even today, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims walk to Santiago every year. Even if it was different for us this time, it was still a full Camino. And we are looking forward to tomorrow.
Then we continue for another 3 days - for Mike to Fisterra - for me to Muxía.
And then of course back to Santiago, but on different days. Who knows who we will meet on our return...it will be a huge surprise for both of us - that much we can reveal.
