Some highlights:
FIRST AID - The Elementary First Aid course forms part of the basic training required for all persons wishing to commence a career at sea. If successful, candidates will be awarded a certificate which meets the criteria laid down for Elementary First Aid Aboard Ship in accordance with Section V1/1 of the STCW code.
ENGINE COURSES - The aim of the Approved Engine Course 1 is to provide a basic theoretical and practical understanding of marine engines, their operation, basic maintenance, along with care and respect towards others and the environment. The course meets the requirements of the MCA Small Commercial Vessel Code, Large Vessel Code and Workboat Code giving the basic training to engineer officers who want to further
their careers on “small vessels” (Fishing Vessels, Yachts, Tugs, Workboats, Standby, Seismic Survey, Oceanographic Research Vessels and Government Patrol Vessels).
SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES - STCW Personal Survival Techniques. This course is physically demanding. Candidates must be physically fit and meet the standard entry requirements for entry into the Merchant Navy.
The course follows a standard programme. The course delivers a basic knowledge and practice of survival techniques and principles that can be applied to maximise the probability of survival following a marine casualty.
PERSONAL SAFETY - If successful, candidates will be awarded a certificate which meets the performance criteria laid down for Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities aboard ship in accordance with Section V1/1 of the STCW code. The training forms part of the requirements for the basic training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that vessel as part of the ship’s complement, which designates safety or pollution prevention duties in the operation of the ship. The training must be undertaken before new entrants are assigned to any such shipboard duties.
RIB CAPSIZE & RIGHTING - This is a one day course. The course has good course notes for home study and practical elements and is delivered hands-on with full candidate participation. The course is aimed at professional Patrol boat, Rescue boat, Workboat crews however there is a lot of good information and seamanship techniques here and the course is open to the public.
DECK HAND COURSES - we cover a wide variety of courses such as the Yacht Deck Hand Skills Course. This course covers the entire syllabus of the STCW Able Seafarer Deck Certificate Course – EDH – and is aimed at seafarers and prospective seafarers who through the lack of suitable valid sea-time and/or a watch-rating certificate can not qualify with a flag state approved certificate. We run MCA Approved Slinger Banksman Course designed to to provide personnel, who have little or no experience of the Slinger and Signaller role, to give them a basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities. The Initial Training Programme allows the delegate to demonstrate basic Slinger and Signaller practical skills following instruction and demonstration by the training staff. In addition we run the MCA Approved Deck Crane & Safe Lifting Course - If you operate a Deck Crane or any lifting equipment you must hold a Deck Crane operators certificate.
STCW SHIP SECURITY WITH DESIGNATED SECURITY DUTIES - Training in designated security duties must be undertaken by seafarers, engaged on ships which are required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS Code, who have designated duties under the ships security plan. On completion of this training a seafarer will at least be able to maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan, recognise security risk and threats, undertake regular security inspections, properly use security equipment and systems.
