Chatkhara Daal
Ingredients for Chatkhara Daal:
Oil 1/4 cup
Onion (chopped) 1 cup
Garlic (chopped) 1 tbsp
Ginger (chopped) 1 tbsp
Tomato (chopped) 1 cup
Coriander powder 1 tbsp
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Cumin powder 1 tbsp
Salt 1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Moong daal soaked 1 ½ cup
Masoor daal soaked 1 cup
Water 5-6 cups
Garam masala powder 1 tbsp
Chaat masala powder 1 tbsp
Green coriander (chopped) as required
Green chilies (sliced) as required
Ingredients for Salad:
Onion (sliced) 1 cup
Chilled water 2-3 cups
Green coriander 1/2 cup
Lemon juice 2 tbsp
Red chili powder 1 tsp
Salt 1/2 tsp
Chaat masala 1 tsp
Ingredients for Tarka:
Oil 1/2 cup
Garlic (sliced) 7-8 cloves
Green chilies (sliced) 5-6
Whole red chilies 7-8
Red chili powder 1 tbsp
Amchoor powder 1/2 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Directions for Chatkhara Daal Preparation:
In a pot heat oil and add onion. Cook until translucent. Now add garlic, ginger and cook for a minute.
Add tomato, coriander powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, salt, turmeric powder and cook for 2-3 mins.
Add soaked moong daal and soaked masoor daal. Add water and cook until it starts to boil.
Now cover and cook for 15-20 mins or until daal is fully done.
Add garam masala powder, chaat masala powder and mix it well.
Directions for Salad Preparation:
In a bowl add onion and chilled water. Soak the onion for 5-10 mins.
Now add this soaked onion in another bowl and add green coriander, lemon juice, red chili powder, salt, chaat masala and mix it well. Set aside.
Directions for Tarka Preparation:
In a pot heat oil and add garlic, green chilies, whole red chilies, red chili flakes, red chili powder, amchoor powder, cumin seeds and sizzle for a minute.
Add this tarka into daal and mix it well.
Now dish it out and garnish it with green coriander and green chilies. Your Chatkhara Daal is ready.
