Audi has commenced production of the new Audi A5 Avant and A5 Sedan in Neckarsulm, highlighting the brand's dedication to efficient and sustainable manufacturing. The modernized facilities incorporate advanced production processes that significantly reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable water use. Audi's "360factory" strategy aims for net carbon-neutral production by 2025, utilizing more efficient lines, increased automation, and innovative technologies to meet the highest quality standards.
The introduction of the new Audi A5 family, based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) with partially electrified drive systems, marks the largest start-up phase in the history of the Neckarsulm plant. The updated paint shop features energy-efficient processes that save up to 140 kWh per vehicle. Additionally, a new paint separation method allows for over 90% of the filtered air to be reused, significantly reducing the need for fresh air conditioning and eliminating the use of fresh water and chemicals. These measures underscore Audi's commitment to minimizing environmental impact.
Neckarsulm leads the way in automation within the Audi Group, with over 80% of material volumes in the body shop now provided automatically. This includes fully automated installation of all add-on parts, enhancing fitting accuracy and minimizing external influences. Quality control has been enhanced through inline measurements and the use of augmented reality (AR) for inspections. These advancements ensure continuous, high-quality production, positioning the new Audi A5 as a benchmark for modern automotive manufacturing.
