Lupus also called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that commonly occurs in women and affects different parts of the body. It can affect any organ in the body, and thus, its symptoms are varied. They can include achy joints, chest pain, reduced blood count, skin rashes, and mouth ulcers.
A Lupus patient can live a perfectly normal life provided they keep the disease under check and consult a rheumatologist. However, most patients first reach out to other specialists to consult regarding specific medical symptoms. They are redirected to a rheumatologist after collating symptoms and running diagnostics tests.
Each Lupus case is different in severity, therefore treatments differ. Patients have to undergo continuous treatment to manage the disease properly. They also have to commit to self-care and taking various other precautions.
