So, You Want to Climb MT RAINIER?

One does not simply "hike" Mt Rainier. Over 10,000 people attempt to summit Mount Rainier each year, only half of these make it to the top. There's a reason so many don't make it, reaching the summit of a 14,410 foot active volcano requires climbing at least eight miles with 9,000 feet of elevation gain. Nevermind that it's the most glaciated mountain in the lower 48 states. Rainier tests climbers physically, but also requires a knowledge of mountaineering. Roped travel across glaciers pocketed with large open crevacces is no joke. Summiting this peak requires preparation far in advance, and even then, you may not summit for whatever reason. Despite the risk, the rugged beauty, thrill of adventure, and the achievement of summiting draws people back again and again.
