Adding a fresnel lens onto the ground glass of your large format film camera is a fantastic way to brighten up the image you see. The fresnel lens is particularly useful for brightening up wider lenses (75mm to 150 mm) which typically have a darker image on the ground glass than longer lenses like 210mm to 300mm on 4x5. Adding a fresnel lens does NOT affect your ability to check critical focus using a magnifying loupe.
