Ofa Mabo is a proud Meriam woman, and coordinator for Eip Karem Beizam, a Torres Strait Islander cultural group, whose mission is to ensure Meriam people and culture survives for generations to come.
Ofa is encouraging other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural groups to encourage their communities to fill out the Census this August. The data about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language may help other groups to establish cultural and language programs for their communities.
