throughout the song, luna is in a dream and feeling her emotions in a way she never has before. her struggles to fit in at ravenwood high are expressed in a vulnerable way that the audience hasn't yet seen. you will notice her connection to "the moon" and "you", indicating she is speaking to her deceased mother in her dream. perhaps there is a reason for this..
