This is a look inside the Sturmey Archer S5 5 speed hub.

This hub video will be like the other videos otherwise, taking this hub apart, looking closely and re-assembling it. Pause if you need to to read the subtitles. This S5 hub was made in 1968 and it is 28 hole so it likely was on a muscle bike. It shifts just like a 3 speed but with an additional push rod and bell crank lever for shifting Higher or Lower gears. I wasn't able to find a shifter for it. The hub has a range of +50%, +26.6% high gears, direct, and -21.1%, -33.3% low gears. + 50% and - 33.3% would be if shifting the push rod side of the hub. Inside the hub doesn't look nearly as complicated as it sounds trying to shift it!
