French Cardinal Dominique Mamberti has been appointed Protodeacon of the Vatican, tasked with announcing the new pope after a conclave. Pope Francis urged the faithful to protect the environment ahead of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 1. New regulations for Vatican employees include requirements to profess the Catholic faith and avoid visible tattoos or piercings. In a move towards sustainability, the Vatican plans to transition to solar energy under the motu proprio Fratello Sole. On October 20th, Pope Francis will canonize 14 people, including the 11 "Martyrs of Damascus," with the canonization date for Blessed Carlo Acutis to be announced later.
