Hey guys, it’s Liam from Killer Ink here, and today we’re going to be looking at the Darklab Lightning Bolt 3.5 from FK Irons.
The Lightning Bolt 3.5 provides a lightweight power source for any rotary machine that comes with a 3.5 mm connection.
So let’s take a look!
Darklab’s Lightning Bolt 3.5 is a version of the classic Lightning Bolt battery pack that is compatible with tattoo machines featuring an unobstructed 3.5 millimetre jack connection, such as the Cheyenne HAWK Pen Unio. You can see how easily it fits onto this machine’s 3.5 mm jack plug with just a click.
The lithium-ion battery pack charges via USB-C and offers 10 hours of power based on a single charge – depending on your voltage, speed and choice of cartridges, of course. With fast charging speeds of up to 1.5 Amps when using Darklab USB power units, you can fully charge the Lightning Bolt in just an hour and a half via the port on the pack’s base.
Controls include voltage speed, eGive and battery level checks are managed through three buttons on the side of the battery pack - the power button, which turns the machine on and off as well as other functions, and the up and down buttons for voltage adjustment. An LED voltage indicator grid above the buttons can tell you the current voltage and battery level.
Voltage is adjusted in 0.5 Volt steps, operating in a 5 to 12 Volt range. The central LED displays a colour that matches the voltage grid, with blinking colours representing a half increment - so if we bump the speed up until we’ve got a blue blinking light, we know we’re at 11.5 Volts.
You can check the Lightning Bolt’s battery level by pressing and holding the power button until it turns white , and then releasing – the colour shown on the LED will indicate a power level, with a traffic light system going from green to red. As you can see, the green light shows that the battery pack has between 60 and 100 percent battery.
The Lightning Bolt 3.5 is fully Bluetooth compatible, which allows you to pair the battery pack to other Darklab products such as the Killswitch. It can be connected to the Darklab app, which can be used for eGive adjustment and voice control, but also gives access to firmware updates to ensure your power pack is future proofed!
Switching to wireless is often a bit of a revelation for tattoo artists, and with a lightweight battery adding only 58 grams to machine’s heft, you’ll notice a difference in efficiency and space-saving straight away!
Ideal for conventions and guest spots, the lightweight battery pack also features an auto shutdown when power falls below 3%, and a shipping mode so that it won’t accidentally turn on during your travels – activate this by holding the power button until the LED turns red.
Engineered and manufactured in the United States by FK Irons, the Lightning Bolt 3.5 is available to order from Killer Ink on its own or as a pack of two.
