Wildlife experts issued a safety reminder after an uptick in bear activity around Bozeman as the animals search for food.
Last month alone, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks euthanized seven black bears in the Bozeman area because they were getting into unsecured attractants. That includes trash bins, pet food, bird feeders and messy grills.
“We want people and their property to be safe. We want to reduce these attractants so that we don’t have bears repeatedly coming to residential areas,” said Morgan Jacobsen, communication and education program manager with Montana FWP.
Jacobsen said Bozeman residents shouldn’t be surprised to see bears taking a stroll through town, because Montana is bear country.
