EXCLUSIVE: Princess Diana’s FACE appears on Paris tunnel pillar she crashed into
PRINCESS Diana’s face has been painted on the tunnel pillar she crashed into and died 21 years ago today.
The face of the “People’s Princess” has mysteriously popped up overnight on the 13th pillar of the Pont de l'Alma Tunnel in Paris that ended her life.
Locals, tourists and Diana fans have been left stunned by the face of Lady Di on the notorious chipped concrete column.
A smiling Diana appeared just days ago – right on the eve of today’s 21st anniversary of her horror death.
But this major road tunnel – where thousands of drivers speed through every day and night – is strictly prohibited to all pedestrians.
Daily Star Online can exclusively reveal the “white blur” is an incredible tribute to the Princess of Wales.
We can also today, on the anniversary of Diana’s death, identify the man behind the daring yet stunning painting.
He told Daily Star Online how “people are not allowed to walk in this tunnel, it’s not made for them, it is strictly not allowed”.
But he defied the “no pedestrians” road sign in the dead of the night to create a tribute that will grip Diana’s fans all over the world.
The black and white metal depicts a smiling Diana wearing her iconic jewellery – including a necklace and earrings.
The artist, who is only known as 7Nuit, told us he “did it at 4am to be sure there were not a lot of cars” and that he would not get caught.
“I wanted to make a real tribute to Princess Diana,” he told Daily Star Online.
“She was a good person who made beautiful things for people all around the world and she stays in memories and will long be unforgettable.”
He added: “I remember the day she died very clearly.. it was at the end of summer and I saw the news on TV.
“I could see people crying… it left me with a really sad feeling.”
7Nuit told us he created the artwork just weeks ago on July 27, and that he believes it is still there today – poignantly the day of the anniversary.
But tourists can only see it if they drive through the tunnel itself, as pedestrians are banned due to the thousands of tourists trying to get up close to the pillar.
Today will see people pay their respects to Diana at Kensington Palace more than two decades after she died along with boyfriend Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul.
The horrific crash on Sunday, August 31, 1997 saw their Mercedes plough into the 13th pillar of the Alma tunnel at 65mph while a pack of paparazzis gave chase.
It later emerged the driver had been drunk, with an inquest in London ruling Diana and Dodi were “unlawful killed” by Paul’s “grossly negligent behaviour”.
Flowers, pictures and cards were already pictured yesterday on the gates to the Palace – where Diana’s sons Princes Harry and William now live.
