Gau Ming-ho, a 46-year-old Taiwanese man, on Wednesday (15/5) told how he talked to himself the whole night to stave off the sleep he knew would kill him while he was stranded on the side of Mount Everest. Gau got stuck 2,000 feet (610 metres) below the summit of Mount Everest on Friday (10/5) and had to survive until Saturday morning (11/5) before being rescued. By the time a Nepalese Sherpa found Gau, his fingers, toes and face were numb. He was suffering from severe frostbite. The US State Department on Monday (13/5) thanked the Nepalese army for organizing a helicopter flight that saved the life of Seaborn Weathers from Texas. Taking Weathers off the mountain set a record as the world's highest-ever helicopter rescue.
