Also known as Villa Capra or Villa Capra Valmarana but universally known as La Rotonda, Villa Almerico Capra is a central-plan building constructed near Vicenza to a design by Andrea di Pietro della Gondola (1508-1580), known as Palladio, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 16th century.
Palladio had a complex cultural education that was reflected in his artistic activity, concretely placed at the service of the wealthy Venetian and Vicenza aristocracy. A good part of Palladio's production is in fact linked to the design of villas and prestigious residences, today UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
