British composer John Mervyn Addison (1920-1998) won an emmy for his theme music for the TV series 'Murder She Wrote' starring Angela Lansbury as author/detective Jessica Fletcher.
Addison is known as a composer of film music and some of his work includes A Bridge Too Far, Torn Curtain, Tom Jones and Sleuth.
He had a personal connection to the film Reach For The Sky, which he scored.
Douglas Bader, the subject of the film, was his brother-in-law having married Thelma, his elder sister.
This recording of the theme from 'Murder She Wrote' is played by Daniel Caine and his Orchestra from a 4-CD collection titled '100 Greatest TV Themes' (Silva Screen TVPMCD 807) issued in April 2002.
