국내 여행업계, 中 저가관광 규제 지침에 '긴장'
China is reportedly urging travel agencies in the country to curb the sale of cheap travel packages to Korea amid strained diplomatic ties.
The China National Tourist Administration posted a notice online earlier this month that it would regulate cheap package tours... without specifying a country.
But an official at the Korea Tourism Agency said today that the cuts are targeting packages to Korea between November and April next year.
Korea's JoongAng Ilbo has reported that China wants to cut the number of tourists by 20 percent.
That's causing concern among businesses that rely on spending by Chinese visitors.
On the Korean stock market Tuesday, local cosmetics companies were hit hard -- Korean makeup and skincare products being popular items for tourists from China.
Relations between the two countries have been tense recently, most notably over Seoul's decision to deploy the advanced U.S. missile defense system THAAD to the peninsula.
