Some good news for once
The UKVI / EC Priority Service is reopening for entry clearance applications. This is very good news as large numbers of people including a few clients have been waiting months for applications that could be decided in a day.
Indeeed, an example of how quick and well the priority service is a client of mine was granted his visa within a hour and a half of doing his bio metrics.
The headlines points are that from early 2023 - I will announce when -
The Home Office will make decisions within 15 days
The “extra” cost for a priority decision is going to £573.
This is obviously a great relief to those who want to come or need to see relatives urgently, such as when there is sickness, births or marriages.
The question is Why did the Home Office deny priority service for those abroad?
The short answer is Due to the war in Iran.
As a response to the situation in Ukraine almost a year ago, the Home Office introduced a new visa scheme for Ukranians. As a result, they had to shift their resources around, and stopped offering priority applications for entry clearance applications made from abroad. This applied to family member applications.
So for the last year, it has not been possible to get a quick decision on entry clearance applications. Anyone applying to bring their spouse, child, or dependent adult had to face a long wait of 6 months or more. This has caused a lot of stress to a lot of people.
Thankfully, things are changing. Recently, we have been contacted by the Home Office regarding clients who have already submitted entry clearance applications.
How is this going to work. And how much?
The Home Office are offering people the option to pay an additional £573 to have an appliciation decided within 15 working days of payment being made.
Priority service for new applications will resume in “early 2023”.
This is great news – entry clearance applications are notoriously slow and it is fantastic that the Home Office is now allowing this “top up” option. Let’s hope it isn’t too long before the new applications can also be made with the priority option.
