Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of humanity's moon landing, the day on which Neil Armstrong became the first human to step on the moon. Today, India is launching the historic Chandrayaan 2 mission which will make India only the fourth country to have landed on the moon and the first in the space race to reach the south pole. In this video, i explain why south pole is so important and how the search for water on moon has progressed in the past decade. Water exists in the form of ice in the shadowed region of craters on the moon.
Attention: There are two factual errors in the video as follows-
1. The lander's touchdown date is September 6/7, not September 19
2. Gaganyaan does not aim to send humans to the Moon. It's only about launching an Indian crew to low-Earth orbit for seven days. ISRO has not announced any plans yet to send humans to the Moon.
