The Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre, or Sacré-Coeur, is a Roman Catholic church and a famous landmark in Paris with a deep and complex history as it is not only a religious monument but also a political one. The site has been around since pagan times through the Middle Ages and French Revolution.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church was constructed in 1905 in downtown Tampa, Florida and is one of the oldest churches in the city of Tampa. The church, located at 509 N. Florida Avenue, is predominantly a Romanesque structure, with other elements.
The basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was completed in 1914. The basilica was consecrated after the end of World War in 1919.
The purpose of the church was to protect the French, but also for them to be forgiven for all their sins since the French Revolution. Legentil managed to get a law from the National Assembly declaring that the construction of the Sacre-Coeur was of public interest.
The crypt inside the Sacre Coeur is also definitely a site worth seeing. It includes statues of Patron saints, and even a relic that is believed to be the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ! This is fitting to the name of the Basilica, as Sacre Coeur translates into English as Sacred Heart.
