The University of Kansas’ Jazz Ensemble I and Wind Ensemble gathered on April 29, 2018, at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C. to perform the world premiere of Kevin Walczyk’s Symphony No. 5, Freedom from Fear: Images from the Shoreline.

The rare joint performance of the two prestigious ensembles was conducted by Paul W. Popiel. Reach Out Kansas Inc. commissioned the symphony by the Pulitzer Prize- and Grawemeyer Award-nominated composer.
