Winter Junkyard Adventures are not the most enjoyable, but what else are you supposed to do? It is cold here in Winnipeg Manitoba about half the year, and we have hot rods to build! This time on SPPTV we remove a GM 4l80e Automatic Transmission from a 2008 Chevy van for Rob's project turbo 5.3 LS S-10!
It may seem like we don't prepare very well for the junkyard. That may be partially true, but we bring less to travel light. The junkyard tool box is usually all we bring, this time we brought a battery powered sawzall as well. We also end up using a lot of things we find in the junkyard as tools, like the tire iron Rob uses to separate the engine and transmission.
The 4l80e is a good strong transmission, and offers the all important feature of overdrive! The electronic transmission are also very tune able, and a good fit for any LS swap. The turbo combination Rob is running in his S-10 will require a beefy drive train, and this transmission should be perfect for the job.
We go to the junkyard for hotrod parts quite often, so check out our previous videos for more! Make sure to subscribe if you are new to catch the next one!
