Join Deb in embodying the Divine Feminine with your #InnerGoddessTeam! This week, we’re honoring the primordial Greek/Roman Goddess of the Night, Nyx. She pre-dated the Titans and Olympians in Greek mythology, emerging from Chaos at the beginning of time. Nyx is the personification of the night and holds power over darkness, dreams, and the mysteries of the unseen. So you can call on her when you want help in understanding your dreams or when you need support in exploring your own shadow side.

Nyx was one of the most powerful of all the Greek deities (even Zeus feared her!), yet many people don’t know her… probably because she predates the Olympians, who we’re very familiar with.
It was said she dwelled in the depths of Tartarus, the dark recesses of the Underworld, and the dark misty air which swirled around there was Erebus, her consort. With him, she gave birth to Aether, god of light, and Hemera, goddess of the day, and many other deities including Hypnos (Sleep), Thanatos (Death), Moros (Doom), the three Fates (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos).
Each night Nyx would emerge from her cave and together with Erebus, would block out Aether’s light, bringing darkness and night to the world. The next morning Hemera would then emerge from Tartarus, sweep away the darkness of night, and Nyx would return to her home.
You can call on Nyx for guidance in dream interpretation, to recall your dreams, or even to induce lucid dreaming for spiritual exploration. She rules the deep subconscious, so you can invoke her to embrace your own inner darkness and to do deep shadow work based on the insights that you receive from your depths.
And even though she was feared by many deities, she also had a maternal side, protecting her many children and favored heroes, offering comfort and rest during the night. So call on her when you feel you need protection or a sense of safety during times of vulnerability.
Here’s the beautiful chant from Shelley Graff (from “Fire on the Arrow”) that I shared:
We hear your cry, deep in the night
You’re not alone, we’ll hold you tight
Deep in our hearts, wrapped ‘round your soul.
Open your heart and you will know
