Budget 2024: Free Electricity Up to 300 Units For 1 Crore Households, Govt Pushes Energy Transition
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted energy security as a key priority in the Union Budget 2024-25. She emphasized the government's strategy to sustain high and resource-efficient economic growth while ensuring energy security in terms of availability, accessibility, and affordability. Sitharaman announced the release of a policy document on energy transition pathways, balancing employment, growth, and environmental sustainability. She also noted that, in line with the interim budget announcement, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has been launched to install rooftop solar plants, allowing 1 crore households to receive up to 300 units of free electricity each month. The scheme has received a remarkable response, with more than 1.28 crore registrations and 14 lakh applications, and further encouragement will be provided.
