Criticism of Jewish individuals, communities, or the state of Israel is usually met with accusations of antisemitism, leading many to argue this is used as a tactic to deflect genuine concerns.
Malik ash-Shabazz, widely known as Malcolm X, was a transformative figure whose life journey epitomized resilience, self-reflection, and the pursuit of truth. Born Malcolm Little in 1925, he rose to prominence as a minister in the Nation of Islam, a misguided, heretical religion. However, disillusionment with the Nation’s teachings led him to embrace true Islam after performing Hajj in 1964. Witnessing the unity of Muslims of all races profoundly impacted him, and he adopted Sunni Islam’s universal principles. During this journey, he met King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, who welcomed him warmly and reinforced his understanding of Islam’s authentic message. Additionally, he studied under a Sunni scholar who helped deepen his knowledge of Tawhid and the Qur’an. May Allah have mercy on all of them.
Malik ash-Shabazz’s virtues included his relentless commitment to justice, his ability to inspire and educate, and his moral courage to grow and correct his path. From him we can learn about the importance of correcting our mistakes, to set our pride and ego aside in the journey towards truth. Our belief is that he died as a true Muslim. We ask Allah to forgive him and have mercy on him.
