This video explains easy way of writing electronic configuration of Cu and its ions Cu+ and Cu2+.
General electronic configuration of d-block elements
(n-1)d1-10 ns 0-2
This generalisation has several exceptions because of very little energy difference between (n-1)d and ns orbitals. Along with that, half and completely filled orbitals are more stable.Hence, Copper has 3d104s1 configuration instead of 3d94s2.
The arrangement of electrons in the different shells of an atom is called electronic configuration.
To write electronic configuration , calculate the number of electrons from atomic number of an element.
s, p, d & f notation
The number of electrons present in sub shell is depicted as super script & similar sub shell is differentiated by writing the principal quantum number before the sub shell
Cu( 29) = 1s22s22p63s23p6 3d10 4s1
Cu+(28) =1s22s22p63s2 3p6 3d10
Cu2+(27) =1s22s2 2p63s23p63d9
