How has the influence of lobbies such as the oil industry evolved in the last decades? Can inno-vation outpace the rapidly changing climate?
Last December, 195 countries reached an unprecedented agreement on climate change. Now that three months have passed since this victory, parties are faced with another, perhaps greater challenge: ensuring the implementation of the pledges made at the summit, now that the media spotlight and public attention has moved to other issues.
Global youth will be a key actor in achieving those goals, driving climate action at the local level and inspiring communities.
‘Part 3 – Business’ is a segment of the video series “Youth Voices to COP21”, a young profes-sionals initiative aimed at bringing the voice of the global youth to the climate change negotia-tions.
Fannie Delavelle invited young people from all around the world to send her questions about climate change. She got lots of replies, and asked them to high-level COP21 participants such as California Senator Fran Pavley during the second week of the negotiations.
You can discover their answers in this video series, composed of four segments:
Part 1 - The negotiations
Part 2 - Developing countries
Part 3 – Business
Career tips from COP21 participants
In “Part 3 - Business”, high-level COP21 participants respond to questions from young people all around the world regarding the role of business in climate change and in the negotiations.
They underline that beyond the negotiations, one of the main outcomes of the COP was the knowledge and experience sharing which took place as business, NGOs and subnational entities connected and built partnerships, thereby encouraging the rapid uptake and dissemination of clean technologies, and enabling the identification and replication of best practices.
Questions for “Part 3 –Business” were sent in by young professionals such as Thomas (Bel-gium), Shanna (Taiwan) and Rafika (Kenya) among others and are answered by the following COP21 participants:
Alexis Gazzo, Partner at Ernst & Young, Cleantech & Sustainability services
Jonathan Grant, Director at PwC, Sustainability & Climate Change
Joël Pain, Executive Director at Ernst & Young - EMEIA Sustainable Finance Leader
Fran Pavley, California Senator representing California's 27th State Senate district
Clifford Rechtschaffen, Senior advisor for California Governor J. Brown, working on climate, energy, and environmental issues
Special thanks to YEL which provided the accreditation to attend COP21.
