🌊 Discovering Al Wakrah's Hidden Gem - Souq Al Wakrah! 🌊
While Souq Waqif may be more famous, we stumbled upon Al Wakrah Old Souq, a true reflection of the city's fishing village heritage. If you're looking for a less crowded and equally charming experience, this is the place to be. Here's what we enjoyed doing during our visit to Souq Al Wakrah:
Wander Around the Alleyways: 🏞️ Lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleyways that lead to the beach and corniche. These hidden passageways are a favorite among photographers and a glimpse into traditional Arabian village life.
Try Different Cuisines: 🍽️ Explore the variety of cuisines available at Souq Al Wakrah. From seafood delights at Danat Al Bahar BBQ Fish to Yemeni flavors at Al Fanar, Italian treats at Mercato Antico, and classic diner food at Bennigan's, there's something to satisfy every palate.
Shop Local: 🛍️ Browse through the markets and shops in Souq Wakrah. You'll find dedicated sections for dates, nuts, fish, cheese, flowers, sweets, accessories, spices, handicrafts, and much more. Support local businesses and pick up unique souvenirs.
Visit Abu Manaratain Mosque: 🕌 Don't miss the historic Abu Manaratain Mosque, one of the oldest in the municipality. Interestingly, it has just one minaret despite its name, which means "two minarets."
Al Wakrah Old Souq Family Beach: 🏖️ Relax at the Al Wakrah Family Beach, adorned with old dhow boats. Enjoy the beautiful shoreline and sea views, but remember to follow the beach rules, including proper swimwear and no smoking.
Go for a Run or Bike Ride: 🏃♂️ Take a leisurely run or bike ride along the promenade in front of the playground. It's a great way to soak in the scenic views and stay active.
Pearl Roundabout: 🌟 Spot the famous Pearl monument, a towering icon of Al Wakrah, relocated between Al Wakrah Old Souq and the Al Wakrah port after a road upgrade.
