Since 1994, UK Coals property arm, Harworth Estates, has presided over the largest brownfield reclamation project South Yorkshire has ever seen an epic undertaking that will eventually transform the former Orgreave colliery -an area larger than the nearby Sheffield city centre - into Waverley, a £100m prototypical 21-century sustainable community, featuring 4,000 homes, countless associated facilities, and world-class commercial hubs.
To be developed in phases up until 2030, Waverley will boast laudable green credentials such as energy efficient passive homes, comprehensive waste and recycling strategies, accessible public transportation options, extensive paths and walkways, and enhanced wildlife habitats (over half the site is made up of open spaces, woodland and lakes).
The site has been backfilled and RSK Group was commissioned to ensure that material will stand firm as a building platform.
