If you're catalytic converter has failed, chances are, you'll need to get a replacement installed before you can pass emissions. But not all catalytic converters are created equal. Different states have different emissions laws, which makes selecting the right catalytic converter more challenging. If you live in California or a "CARB State", you will need a 50-state legal, CARB certified catalytic converter. If you live outside of these states, just about any catalytic converter will work, 49-state or 50-state legal. Other options include direct-fit, which bolts onto your vehicle with little-to-no modification required, or a universal catalytic converter, which will require cutting and welding.
