On February 26, 2013, Anibal Perez was found shot multiple times in the driver's side seat of a Honda Accord about 10 p.m. Tuesday night at 27th Street and Arthur Avenue. He was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m.
Moments before his death Perez was recorded walking into a Vizcaya Liquor Store at 25th and Sherman streets, about 3 blocks from the site of the killing. In the video, edited together from footage captured by several security cameras on this store, there are apparently two men watching Perez. Both are initially in what appears to be a blue Dodge Charger. One of the men gets out of the Charger and follows Perez into the store. When Perez leaves the store and gets back in his car, the man who followed him into the store gets into another vehicle, a Ford Explorer or Escape, and follows with his headlights off. The driver of the Charger does the same.
These men are considered persons of interest. It is not known what role, if any, they played in Perez's death but investigators consider it critically important to identify them and speak with them.
A $1,000 reward remains in effect for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Perez's killing. The reward money is being administered by the Citizens Crime Commission and anonymous tipsters will be eligible to receive the reward if they call through that organization's tip line at 215-546-TIPS.
Anyone with information can also call investigators directly. Camden County Prosecutor's Office Investigator Michael Dougherty can be reached at (856) 225-8682 and Camden Police Detective Eliud Torres is available at (856) 757-7420.
