This tutorial shows how to make a double dovetail, a traditional Japanese wood joint. Some Japanese wood joints seem almost impossible at first glance - the double dovetail is one of them. As the tenon broadens both lengthwise and crosswise, it cannot be assembled in the »European way«.

Its ingenious design means the double dovetail can take the strain under tension and can only be disassembled at a specific angle. It is mainly used in carpentry and for cabinets with blind panels.
