(8 Jan 2015) The head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency said on Thursday that divers' attempts to retrieve the black boxes from AirAsia Flight 8501 have been hampered by bad weather and poor visibility.
Henry Bambang Soelistyo said the divers had been unable to make progress, a day after a chunk of the plane's tail was discovered in the Java Sea.
He said the divers would be redeployed as soon as conditions improve.
An unmanned underwater vehicle on Wednesday spotted the tail of the aircraft - which vanished from radar screens on 28 December with 162 people on board.
The wreckage was found upside down and partially buried in the sea floor about nine kilometres (6 miles) from where the Airbus A320 lost contact with the control tower.
The flight and cockpit voice recorders, which are crucial to helping determine what caused the jet to go down, are located in the rear section of the aircraft.
