Sawadee Khap! Our Man In Bangkok out and about again. Over Christmas 2021 we spent some time in Kanchanaburi and we stayed at the Hintock River Camp at Hellfire Pass, a place Mrs. Ourmaninbkk has wanted to go for a while. If you've ever been to the museum at Hellfire Pass, the resort is located down the hill from there and on the river.
The hotel reception is amazing. You can walk through to the bar at the back for fantastic views of the river.
The accommodation is novel. Colonial style tents with all the modern amenities, including air con units. The tents are set around a communal area where we ate. The food was great and included in the price. We went in the Christmas holiday and it wasn't cheap. 4,500 THB for a one night That works out at $138.99 or 102.54 pound sterling...I don't have a pound sign on my keyboard. A 'rare' treat for us at that price! Worth it? Honest opinion? No. You can get cheaper deals to stay and I have seen it advertised for much less, so shop around for promotions and deals. You can go and take in the views, visit the onsite museum or eat drink there. I'm sure the hotel will welcome your custom even if you are not staying there as a guest.
The room also smelled of cat pee, which was not something I expected or enjoyed. It was also quite noisy When we were there it was busy, but the noise was from outside the camp; dogs barking and monks chanting early in the morning. Something to be aware of
Conclusion: A beautiful hotel with fantastic views, great buffet dining with an authentic feel. Try to find a decent promotion or deal if you want to stay over and bring some ear plugs if you're a light sleeper definitely worth a look.
