Isacco Montroni, MD, AUSL Romagna, Faenza, Italy, discusses how clinicians should assess patients by their frailty rather than old age, followed by prehabilitation and optimization of the treatment pathway. The importance of involving patients in decision-making is also highlighted, as well as underscoring that geriatric care management is crucial for enhancing the quality of life after surgery for colorectal cancer (CRC). This approach of surrounding patients with more support is particularly important for older, frail patients, who often face social isolation. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
