In Mendelian inheritance, one gene dominates the other. The dominant genes will appear in organisms while recessive genes will not appear. For instance, when we cross purple and white pea plant flowers, the purple color of the flower will be expressed in their offspring's flowers. Since the purple gene is dominant, it appears in the offspring.
On the other hand, non-mendelian inheritance does not follow the Mendelian patterns of inheritance because, in non-mendelian inheritance, many genes come together and mix. Genes from both parents can mix or show up in organisms, causing the inheritance to become uncertain or hard to predict. For example, when a red rose crosses with a white rose, their offspring will be a pink rose, which is an intermediate color between red and white. The different types of non-mendelian inheritance are incomplete dominance, codominance, multiple alleles, and sex-linked traits.
