This easy collard greens recipe is a fool proof way to have great tasting greens to pair with any meal. This recipe calls uses a smoked turkey leg to give you all the flavor you need.
- 2 bundles of Collard Greens
- Smoked Turkey leg or Ham Hock
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp pepper
- a dash of Liquid smoke
- 2 tsp worcheshire sauce
- 2 tsp vinegar( I use apple cider vinegar)
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
Optional - Red Pepper Flakes or hot sauce to taste
You can also add bacon to this for more flavor if you choose.
1. In a large pot, add your smoked turkey leg and cover with water. Start boiling.
2. Take your collards and remove the stems
3. Roll several leaves together and cut your leaves into even pieces
4. Add your cut collard greens to a bowl and rinse with water. Move collard greens to an empty, clean bowl and rinse off again. Repeat process until water remains clean after rinsing.
5. Dice half an onion
6. Add all ingredients in your pot with the smoked turkey leg
7. Add additional chicken stock or water if needed. Should almost cover greens.
8. Cook for 1-2 hours depending on your tenderness preference. I usually go for 2 hours.
