Hello again from Southwest Desert Farming with Michael and Stacey.
Today’s video is a project that I was able to see out visiting my brother. He bought a pond/fountain for my sister-in-law which has fish, water lilies, and some other plants growing made from an IBC tote. He gave us an extra tote that he had so that we could do the same.
Our plan is to create a fountain/pond to which we can have fish on the bottom and plants, maybe vegetables, on top with the water circulating as a water feature as well. The technical term for this is an aquaponic system. The concept is that the fish will produce fertilizer as their waste byproduct, the pump circulates it to the plants where they extract the nutrients, and the clean oxygenated water returns to maintain the fish. Ideally, the fish would eat plants that would also grow in the bottom and would be come self-sufficient. Once the fish are big enough, they could also become a food as well.
Our project started with the 275 gallon IBC tote which I cut about in half first off, then took out a section between. I covered the side with cut pieces of steel from roof panels. Once the decision as to how it would be oriented was made, we leveled it and put pea gravel in with the tractor after a drain hole and pipe was installed from the top to the bottom tank. The bottom really doesn’t need gravel but if there are going to be plants growing, they would benefit from some gravel. Additionally, it would help secure the plants from getting moved by the fish.
I like to keep the videos fairly short so the completion will be in a part 2.
We hope you enjoyed and possibly learned something new on top of helping us learn along the way!

Banjo medley song
BullSam
This loop is a Midi Banjo melody line that can be looped easily. The original tempo is 90bpm and could be bumped up to 120 while sounding clean.

I own a guitar which is a sort of cross between a classical and an acoustic. I'm playing a simple Emaj to Fmaj accompaniment and noodling over the top trying to sound vaguely Spanish. Recorded mono with a Rode NT5 condenser microphone.

This is the sound of a banjo being played erratically. It was recorded in a room with concrete walls. This was recorded in a tascam dr-40. This was edited on Reaper media.
