Parts of Newcastle in the New South Wales Hunter region have been lashed by severe storms following scorching temperatures yesterday, with Maitland receiving 10 millimetres of rain in just 10 minutes.
SES crews responded to more than 46 calls for assistance, and 16,000 homes were left without power.
The weather bureau advised the severe weather threat for the region has passed.
