This match was a big wakeup call to me that I can't just show up and cruise to a win without trying. I failed to make sure I had enough sleep for the match. I failed to double check my stage plan against the round count on every stage (1M 1P on Stage 1). I failed to take tight partials at medium distance seriously enough early on in a complex stage (stage 4). I just failed to bring any sense of urgency to stage 5. I failed to regain my focus on stage 9 after the shooter before me called the rangemaster for an interesting rules call. As the day went on, there were some bright spots and a few stage wins.
But stage wins don't win matches. Travis held things together and shot a very consistent match and took the deserved win. The few stages at the end where I was able to shoot well were a wakeup call of the preparation and focus I have to bring to every stage and can never get complacent about.
This one hurt, but it also ended up being very motivating.
And I couldn't overlook Gerrit winning the low-cap combined prize (shooting SS Minor which is a fair fight with a double stack DA/SA gun).
