Qatar beat Bahrain in Gulf T20I Cricket Championship opener
Mumbai-born Himanshu Rathod achieves his lifelong cricket team at the age of 36 playing his debut match for Qatar and walks away with the man of the match award for his role with the bat and the ball.
Qatar beat Bahrain by 19 runs (DLS method) to get off to a winning start at the Gulf T20I Cricket Championship, which began at the West End International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Earlier, Bahrain won the toss and elected to field. Qatar made 138/8 in 20 overs, mainly due to 31-ball 40 (1x4, 3x6) not out from Muhammad Tanveer. Bahrain made 104/7 in 17 overs.

Many first......... the match went past midnight and into the next day .....early hours of Saturday, as lights of the one of the towers went off and the match resumed after a hour's break.
The overs were reduced from the 20 over mark and cut to 17 which made Bahrain job more difficult but full marks to the Qatar bowlers for stick to the game plan and giving nothing away.
And seven players made their debut include man of the match winner , who fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing an international at the age of 36, a dream which he had when he first picked up the ball in his home town of Mumbai as a child but never made it to the Indian team.
And as the saying goes if there is a will no one stop you. Certainly Himanshu Rathod is a perfect example and going by his fitness drills and fitness regime he follows he certainly has many more years to offer to the game.
Qatar is hosting the inaugural edition of the Gulf T20I Cricket Championship with the tournament held in round robin format. The top two teams after the group stage will play the final on September 23.
